Just arrived in Taipei for our short layover on the way to Bangkok – so far everything is on schedule and we had a great sleep on the first leg so hopefully we will hit the ground in Bangkok reasonably rested for the afternoon we have there.
Just want to start this whole adventure off with a very big thank you to all of our family and friends back home who help us out, watching the kids, picking up the slack at work, checking the mail, watching the house, cutting the grass, etc, etc, etc. This is a great time for us to get away once a year to relax and recharge, and there is no way we could do it without all of your support, so thank you all so very very much!!
Surprise surprise, it is that time of year again and now that school is out and Mrs. Columbus is off for a bit, we are getting ready to leave on our yearly trek for SE Asia. Perhaps if I was to write these posts a little more generically I could just go in and change the dates instead of writing new stuff all the time! At some point we will all be old enough that we won’t even recognize them as reused 🙂
As has been our modus operandi for the last few years we will spend about half our time back at our favorite haunts, and the rest of the time exploring new places. This year one of our previous neighbors, Erica, will be joining us and we will try to indoctrinate her into why we love Thailand and SE Asia so much.
With the excellent help of Khun Oy we have spent some time over the last few months learning to speak a little bit of Thai so we are really looking forward to putting what we have learned to practice (and likely providing the locals with a bit of entertainment)!
Our current plan is to spend a little time in Bangkok before heading south to the gulf coast islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao before heading up north to Chiang Mai. After that the plan is a little less defined and we may spend some time in Malaysia before returning home – but because we don’t have to plan that far ahead, we won’t 🙂
